Hypebeast Spaces: DC Shoes Headquarters

Since its foundation as Droors Clothing by Ken Block and Damon Way, DC Shoes has been one of the pinnacle growth stories in action sports. The brand has grown immensely since its inception, in part due to its unwavering dedication to supporting the activities it loves the most. This chiefly involves skateboarding, and the brand has continually maintained a decorated roster of the most prolific professional skaters in addition to other action sport athletes. Behind the scenes, DC also maintains a committed team of professional designers to push the envelope, and from ‘Unilite’ to ‘Super Suede’ technology, their efforts have been successful. We got the opportunity to view DC’s headquarters in Huntington Beach, speaking with Ben Kelly, the skate category director, as well as Wes Kremer, Nyjah Huston, and Mike Mo Capaldi about their professional models. Enjoy the latest installment of Hypebeast Spaces above, and a gold star will be awarded to whoever correctly places the background song.

A semi-collaboration in many ways, since F.C.R.B. is related to Nike, the release of their Solarsoft Waffle Cruiser in two special colorways is still nonetheless an interesting offering. This spared-down take on Nike’s “Waffle Racer” silhouette has been rendered in two spring-appropriate colorways; Black/Volt and Navy/Sax. Specifically, the Black/Volt color scheme references F.C.R.B.’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection, but both shoes feature special F.C.R.B. branding. These two exclusive colorways will be available at all F.C.R.B. retailers starting on May 25, at a price of around $ 58 USD.

Nike Hyperdunk 2013

Originally designed by Eric Avar and introduced back in 2008, Nike Basketball’s Hyperdunk changed the game thanks to its bold, futuristic look, lightweight construction, and backing from the Black Mamba himself. Now, for the latest evolution in the series, Nike and designer Peter Fogg introduce the Hyperdunk 2013. Culling inspiration from Fogg’s ACG and running designs like the Air Zoom Tallac, Air Terra Humara, Zoom Terra Sertig, Ashiko, and Structure Triax, this year’s edition of the Hyperdunk sees a rugged aesthetic that pairs will with its otherwise minimalist design – one that incorporates Hyperfuse construction, Dynamic Flywire support, and Lunarlon cushioning. According to Fogg:
“Although basketball shoe design has greatly transformed over nearly a century, it’s the small, crafted details that make a noticeable difference on the court. The Nike Hyperdunk 2013 moves intuitively with the foot, while the tailored tweaks we’ve made lead to an incredibly lightweight, breathable and durable shoe for both indoor and outdoor play.”
Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard Kyrie Irving added “when I first put the new Hyperdunks on, I didn’t want to take them off. The performance was great and I feel like the shoe’s versatility benefits my game.” Look for the Nike Hyperdunk 2013 to make its global debut come July 20.

Nike Air Trainer Max ’91 QS NFL “Bo Knows”

Thanks to Nike’s partnership with the NFL – which began last season – sneakerheads have been treated to a range of officially-licensed NFL footwear over the past year. Joining the fray later this month is a brand new take on the Nike Air Trainer Max ’91 – inspired by none other than multitalented great Bo Jackson, for whom the shoe was specifically designed when it was introduced more than two decades ago. Adopting a predominately Wolf Grey color scheme with contrasting black and white accents throughout, the design sees the iconic Oakland Raiders logo on the heel of the left shoe while Jackson’s jersey #34 comes embroidered on that of the right. Furthermore, a crackled cement-like pattern wraps the majority of the midsole as the legendary “Bo Knows” slogan (from Nike’s early ’90s campaigns) appears on the design’s signature wrap-strap apparatus. Look for the QuickStrike “Bo Knows” edition of the Air Trainer Max ’91 to be available from Nike Sportswear retailers like Concepts beginning this Saturday, May 25 for $ 110 USD.
